This is that time of year to remember the good amidst all of the bad. Thanks to some incredible Oklahomans, many of our homeless and struggling populations in Lawton got a chance to enjoy quite a bit of good that's been getting some social media attention.

Over the weekend, the owners of Cool Vibes Vapes and More, Jorge and Sarah Castro, hosted a public event for those in need near Lawton. They invited a few barbers to offer free haircuts and handed out free chili for those who stopped by.

After sharing photos of the event and inviting the rest of Lawton to come and take advantage, over 590 people reacted to their good deeds on Facebook. Several people applauded them in the comments, saying:

  • "I see a couple of our amazing barbers from Elite Academy going the lords work! I’m super proud of yall!!!"
  • "That’s awesome. Hats off to you guys. Giving back to the community and doing the Lords work."

The Castros were humble about the attention and simply wanted to encourage the rest of the community to participate in events like these. They followed up on the post, commenting:

"Thank you for the continued support lawton. Your words keep us motivated and encouraged. Thank you to all of our awesome barbers today they are the real MVPs`. We are on our 7th #coolvibessundayfeeding.

Please come check out our awesome selection of coffee and protein shakes when you have time. A HUGE percentage of proceeds go towards food, shelter, and clothing for our less fortunate. Thank you again and hope to see all your smiling faces soon. Come be part of the SOUTHSIDE MOVEMENT."

- Jorge Castro,  Cool Vibes Vapes and More

This event was just the start of many more that the Castros plan on hosting and honestly, it deserves more than just comments on a Facebook post. What they're trying to do for Lawton's community takes more than just themselves - they need the entire village.

If you see these events, attend them. Make an effort to bring a friend, a family member, even a colleague. At the very least, you can share the news on social media, but the more you can be present, the more impactful the movement will be.

As their next movement of kindness, they've started asking for donations of blankets, coats, jackets, food and other donations that could assist the less fortunate. If you're interested in donating, reach out to Cool Vibes directly via Facebook.
