32-year-old Teddy Whitefield has been found guilty of three counts of manslaughter in the deaths of two teenagers and the unborn child of one of the girls.  This afternoon, Judge Bob Brotherton sentenced Whitefield to 8 years in prison.

Whitefield was accused in deaths of 18-year-old Yeni Lopez, her unborn child, and  13-year-old Gloria Montoya.  At around 9 pm on the night of June 30, 2011, Lopez was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and was attempting to pull onto Jacksboro Highway when the car was struck broadside by Whitefield's police car.

DPS investigators estimated Whitefield to be traveling at around 80 MPH at the time of the crash.  He was not enroute to a call and was found to have been under the influence of a prescription strength diet drug and Xanax at the time of the crash.

The City of Wichita Falls settled a civil suit with the families of the victims in 2012 for $500,000.  Whitefield waived his right to trial by jury which is why Judge Bob Brotherton was responsible for sentencing.

Newschannel 6 reports that the victims' families said the 8-year sentence is a "slap in the face."
