Lawton is Getting Closer to Having an Indoor Shooting Range
Late last year in November of 2021 we heard the news that Ares State Armory was considering building an indoor shooting facility right here in Lawton, Fort Sill. We wasted no time reaching out to the shop and getting confirmation from the owners/managers: Josh Powers and Trey Fox. Click here to read the story.
At that time the plans were still being reviewed by the City of Lawton. The original proposal to rezone the property located near the corner of 38th Street and Lee Blvd. to I-1 (Industrial) was voted on and passed unanimously by the planning committee. That was the first step. Then back in December of 2021 the Lawton City Council also voted and passed the requested rezoning for the property, so it's moving forward!
I was at the shop over the weekend and asked about the range and where they were on the project. Now that the property they're wanting to build on has been officially rezoned, which was one of the biggest hurdles they had to jump, they're now working on plans and construction details. I have to say I have that entirely too damn excited about to piss myself kind of feeling going on. I can't wait for this to become reality!
While we were talking I was asked to take a quick survey. It's a questionnaire about the new range and asks about your level of interest, what memberships if any, would you consider, and just an overall what would you like to see in the new range. If you're interested you can take the survey by clicking here or you can visit their official website to take the survey. This will help guide the owners and those involved with the direction the range should take and how many potential customers and members they can expect once opened.
I stumbled across the new range website by accident when searching for any details on the range. That's when I knew things were starting to take shape and I had to visit the shop to get a full report. You can check out the new site at www.aresrange.com. While you're there take the survey, it only takes a few short minutes to complete and helps out a lot. I'm sure they're just as excited as we are and want this just as much, if not more. If anything else to keep me from asking about it all the time. I've been beyond annoying I'm sure.
So what will the new range look like? While plans are still being discussed it looks like it will have 14 lanes that will be 25 yards with the ability to expand out in the future to include 4 100 yard rifle lanes. It would also have a HUGE retail store, classrooms for instruction and they're also wanting to offer food and beverages as well. We'll keep you posted on the progress. You can also visit their official Facebook page for updates.
