Unusual Shows You Can Watch For Free At Oklahoma State Fair
There's no hiding the fact that the Oklahoma State Fair can be expensive when you're having a good time. But the people who put this shindig on do their best to make sure that you can still have fun, even without a cent in your pocket. And some of these shows you can't pay a price for.
Animal Races
You've never seen real racing until you've seen the competition between four legged foes. Seriously, those checkered flags aren't just for people. At the Centennial Plaza, watch as goats, chickens, sheep, and "other surprise animals" race for the gold.
Pirate Dogs
Could you imagine a real pirate dog robbing your ship, telling you to walk the plank? Do you think it would work if you through the stick the other way?

Seriously, though, these dogs have tricks better than the rabbit on the cereal box. They're part of the Captain's Canines show at the Plaza stage.
Appreciating Native American Culture Through Music
You can't celebrate Oklahoma without celebrating Native American culture. To help you really appreciate the music and history, the State Fair committee made sure to include a performance from young Inca and Navajo performers at the Circle.
Giant Horses
Horses are huge as it is, but these are BIG. You'll have a chance to visit the "Gentle Giants of Express Ranches" at the Super Barn and even a photo opportunity to guess your height in hands (how horses' height is measured).
Shoot-Outs
Don't worry, there aren't any real bullets flying, it's just a funny blast from the past. The new addition, Tumbleweed Crossing show, features cowboys, lawmen and a true western experience. Check it out at the Oklahoma Frontier Experience building.
Robots
This is the first time that the Oklahoma State Fair has had the opportunity to showcase robots. But we're not talking your typical Vector: these 125-pound robots were built by Oklahoma's high school students.

First Ever Homesteading Event
Now that homesteading is a regular thing in Oklahoma, ir's important to learn the secrets of the trade. This year, the Oklahoma State Fair is bringing the professionals to you at the Modern living building.
Learn the basics of canning, bee keeping, wicket tub gardening and so much more. The event lasts from 11:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. on Sunday, September 15th.
