As a parent or student what will be your decision for the 2020/2021 school year? Will you choose traditional or virtual schooling? That's the choice each person will have to make when enrolling and preparing for school this year. There's pros and cons to each choice and it won't be an easy one to make.

Summer vacation is almost over, not that it was much of a vacation to start with. The first day of school for LPS (Lawton Public School) students will be Monday, August, 24th 2020 (08-24-20). They recently changed the date from the (08-21-20) to the (08-24-20). An open house or "Meet and Greet" will take place on the 21st of this month. This will allow students, parents and teachers to meet and discuss the 2020/2021 school year, find class rooms and go over schedules. Face masks will be required to attend the open house or meet and greet. They also ask that only one parent or guardian attend with the student to help with social distancing.

Students and parents will have three different options to choose from for the 2020/2021 school year. Traditional school, virtual learning and they will offer a mixture of both traditional and virtual learning. This option allows for extra-curricular activities and classes at your neighborhood school along with the online courses. It won't be an easy choice to make, we're all concerned about the safety of our kids and teachers.

The official LPS website addresses all the safety precautions and CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines that the school will be following. Recently the LPS Board of Education passed the ECAA (face mask) policy. This along with all the familiar CDC recommendations for social distancing, hand washing and surface sanitation will be implemented to help students and faculty attend traditional school.
