Worst Things To Do On Christmas This Year In Oklahoma
Merry Christmas! It's finally the big one that most people have been waiting all year long for. Time for the presents to come out, the food to be prepped, and the families to all come together.
There are a million things everyone will want to do today, like play outside with the new toys, take the visiting family to see Mount Scott and the Refuge, and so many other ideas.
While most of these ideas are harmless, you might be tempted to do some crazier things this year, especially because of the above-average temperatures this year. But beware, you might find yourself in a pickle on the worst day of the year to get caught in a problem.
Barbeque Outside
Oklahoma has seen the driest December this year in quite some time. We've already seen several major fires recently due to the dry conditions. Currently, the majority of the state is still in a drought, with southwest Oklahoma suffering from severe and extreme drought conditions, specifically.

Avoid using fire outdoors, even if it feels like spring on Christmas. Firefighters are already on edge because of the likelihood of a structure fire happening on Christmas due to cooking accidents; they don't need to added pressure of a grass fire starting, as well.
Go Swimming
We get it - the temperature is WAY higher than we've normally seen in Oklahoma on Christmas Day. But it's important to remember that the water isn't as warm as the temperatures outside.

Around this time of year, the water runs between 39 degrees and 55 degrees in many of Oklahoma's lakes, according to Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's (ODWC) recent fishing reports. A trip to the hot topic late in the evening might be the better option for this time of year.
Forget the suncreen
Just because it's winter doesn't mean the sun stops being that toxic family member that you just can't get rid of. They always say they're helping you, but end up burning you if you aren't careful enough. So throw on the sunscreen, the glasses, and the hat before hanging outside for the family Christmas party.
