Tornados In Oklahoma: We Love Them, They Hate Us

There's no doubt that Oklahoma and tornados go together like peanut butter and jelly - you can't have one without the other. In most cases, it's a terrifying, terrible combination with destruction and heartbreak surrounding the scene. But, when those in Oklahoma who love the thrill of chasing capture how they view these storms, it's sometimes possibly to see the beauty in the beast.

We're not just referencing the classic "Twister" movie, either. There have been several over the years referencing major moments in Oklahoma's history, paying tribute to mother nature's frightening beauty, such as "Where Was God?" Some even take place in fictional areas, but even in the land of make-believe, it's still the most sensible option to put a tornado in Oklahoma, like in "13 Minutes."

Recently, we've all heard about the release of "Twisters" in July of 2024. But have you taken a look at the other media surrounding the movie? Even when tornados take the towns, the homes, the people of Oklahoma, life continues on. When history has put enough distance between us and then, that's when reflection and creativity combine and we gain a new perspective on different events. Thanks to the wonderful world of the internet, we're able to see how the rest of the world views Oklahoma and the disasters we experience.

It's always a breath of fresh air when you hear out-of-towners trying to pronounce "Altus" or "Okmulgee", but we can still appreciate when they take the time to realize just how difficult it is to rebuild entire communities after such a devastating blow. Yes, there is a generally agreed idea of how they begin, the conditions needed, and the usual atmospheric conditions, but twisters are still wildly unpredictable. Even more fascinating are the strange and almost terrifying facts about these powerful displays of nature.
