Events in Oklahoma 2024: An Exciting Kentucky Derby Experience

It's time to break out the sun hats and preppy plaid for this year's 150th Kentucky Derby, happening on May 4, 2024. The iconic event draws people from all over the world and usually fills up quickly with the high-class high rollers. Luckily for Oklahomans, there are a few opportunities available to have an authentic Kentucky Derby experience without needing to travel far: some worth the price you're paying while others are completely free.

Kentucky Derby Day in Remington Park - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Hosted at Oklahoma's own horse-racing track (didn't know we had one of those, did you?), Remington Park pulls out all of the stops for visitors to have the "real deal" experience while never leaving the state.

This year's event will kick off with actual races from some Oklahoma's finest horses before the big race is aired live. They will also have their annual Hat and Bowtie style contests after the race, winners competing for cash prizes and more.

Bowties & Bourbon - Lawton, Oklahoma

The Young Professionals of Lawton (YPL) are celebrating their annual Bowties and Bourbon fundraising event at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lawton, Oklahoma. Although the event is hosted by Young Professionals, horse-race aficionados of all ages (above 21) are encouraged.

Truly an upper-class event, Bowties and Bourbon is a small-towners perfect excuse to go all-out for a day and possibly even win some prizes for their enthusiasm. Join the group for their big hat and bowtie contest, bourbon tasting, raffles and much more.

Chicken N' Pickle Kentucky Derby Pickleball Tournament and Watch Party - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 

For those that love the event, but want to do more than bet, you've got an entire agenda for the Chicken N' Pickle party. Although there are prizes for those dressed in derby style, it is not required to attend the event. Attendees kick things off with a brunch and continue the watch party while enjoying a live-ongoing Pickleball tournament.

Singles Derby Party - Chalk Luxury Sports Bar - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 

Why let the good looks and immense effort you put into to your derby outfit go to waste? For the singles in the area, take a trip to Chalk Sports Bar on May 4th for a watch party and contests while getting to know others looking for love, as well. Door prizes throughout the night, a few mixers throughout the event and contests to wrap up the evening - the Premiere Dating Adventures (PDA) group has an exciting night planned for everyone.

Kay County Chapter Jockeys & Juleps - Ponca City, Oklahoma

Tulsa Boys Home: Run For the Roses - Tulsa, Oklahoma 

2024 is the 20th anniversary of this fundraiser for the Tulsa Boys Home. The event of course includes a watch party among several other entertainment: a wine and cigar pull, silent and live auction, a best dressed contest, an open bar and much more. For tickets and more information, click here.

The Pearls of SSO Foundation & Alpha Community Kentucky Derby Day Party - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Although this event is sold out, we wanted to include it on our list, as it one of the most popular events in OKC metro area; hence the reason tickets were sold out before the end of April. The annual fundraiser raises money to go towards the Pearls of SSO Foundation, which gives scholarships and programs to communities of color in Oklahoma.
