Severe Weather Sunday – A Pre-Thanksgiving Oklahoma Tradition
While the possibility has been a talking point among meteorologists for the last week, every day we grow closer to the weekend, Sunday looks more and more likely to bust out the severe weather.
It wouldn't be the first time wild weather hit right before Thanksgiving. Last year a polar vortex swept down from Canada right before the holiday. I remember walking across a 23° airport parking lot trying to catch a plane to Florida. I wasn't the only traveler that day freezing in shorts and sandals.
On the positive, the chance for severe weather is (for now) still low, but we all know how weather in the Sooner State is completely unpredictable.
What isn't so rare is the chance for widespread rain as the next cold front comes sweeping down the plains.
As much as we collectively loathe a cold rain, much of the state desperately needs it in the worst way. Especially in the Northcentral and Southwestern parts of the state.
We can deal with the rain, but the real bummer is the temperature flux we'll experience. We'll warm to an average high of around 70° before the winds turn out of the north and collapse a nice day into the low 40s.
This will be a cold front that might linger for at least a week but could stay around until March.
Time will tell. As always, it's worth mentioning to keep an eye on the sky throughout the weekend. Try to get out and enjoy the weather on Saturday, it's going to be the last nice weather for a while.
